The Enslaved Persons Project
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The goal is to create a centralized database of information about formerly enslaved people contained in bills of sale from Wake County. This will help longtime Black residents track the histories of their families. Once complete, the community will have access to search these historic documents and images. This is a collaborative endeavor between Shaw University, Wake County Register of Deeds, the University of North Carolina Greensboro Libraries and the North Carolina Division of Archives and Records. Volunteers are welcome.
